It's a new month....APRIL

Morning Journals
Each morning the class starts their day with journal time. Journaling gets the children to think out, plan, create, express and communicate their thoughts through drawing and some writing. Most days they are given a broad topic or prompting statement about what they can journal. Other days they have free journal time to do as they please.  It has been fun to see their drawing skills grow along with their language skills as they express and document their own ideas.

Our S.T.E.M. project evolved throughout the week going in a few different directions. It was first introduced as a stacking/building type of activity. They counted the eggs as they stacked to build. As this was happening, they wondered how tall their egg towers were.

Next, we got out the tape measures and rulers to measure the height of our egg towers. Using their math skills, they compared the height of the towers being built with different size of egg halves.

While some preferred to explore on their own, others enjoyed working in teams to build their towers.

Egg engineering!

We used our fine motor and balancing skills to balance egg towers on top of straws.

During center time these two started their own party planning business, since we have been having so many birthday in our class.

In preparing for Easter the class made beautiful crosses from color bleeding tissue paper. When layered onto paper the tissue paper bled and mixed the colored tissues together. When the crosses were dry, the tissue paper was removed and left beautiful colored crosses. They are hanging in the classroom windows.

The crosses even left a pretty outline on the table covers.

Chapel with Mr. Butterfield!

Mr. Butterfield used the example of musical chairs. When you play musical chairs it ends with only one winner. But with God and his promise of heaven we are all winners. We will receive the gift of heaven through our faith in Christ.

What might heaven look like? No one knows. But we do know it will be an incredible home with God!

Our special visitor, Mrs. Weinhold! She came in and read The Easter Egg by Jan Brett .

Next, she made wooden Easter eggs with the class.

Bunny Homes
Another S.T.E.M. activity we attempted this week was making bunny homes! Using two different sizes of jellybeans, tooth picks, and bunny marshmallows, the children created homes to protect there bunny marshmallows. Working on their math skills, shapes, and fine motor they came up with some pretty creative homes.
